Ravshan irmatov ( Uzbek-Cyrillic Равшан Эрматов , Russian Равшан Сайфиддинович Ирматов , transliteration Ravšan Saifiddinovič Irmatov , transcription Rawschan Saifiddinowitsch Irmatow , English and FIFA spelling Ravshan Irmatov * 9. August 1977 in Tashkent , Uzbek SSR , Soviet Union ) is an Uzbek football referee . He has been a FIFA international referee since 2003 and is the only Uzbek referee to have appeared in the finals of a FIFA tournament. Ermatov is the record referee in this category with eleven world championship matches.

Career

Ermatov had to give up his career as a professional footballer at the age of 19 due to a serious ankle injury. On the advice of his father Sayfiddin Ermatov, also a referee who was still used in the championship of the Soviet Union , he became a referee.

He was three times at the U-17 World Cup (2003, 2007 and 2009) and was selected as referee for the 2007 Junior World Cup in Canada, where he played in the group phase match between Gambia and Mexico and in the match between Chile and Congo . In the qualifying games for the soccer world championships, he headed three games for the 2006 World Cup, eight games for the 2010 World Cup and six games for the 2014 World Cup in the Asian zone. He was also used in the 2013 Confederations Cup in Brazil.

At the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa, he directed five games. In all games Ermatov was attested a sovereign performance. But Howard Webb was selected for the final , especially since Ermatov had already directed the opening game. The President of Uzbekistan awarded him the honorary title "Oʻzbekiston iftixori" ("Pride of Uzbekistan") for his achievement on July 20, 2010; his Uzbek assistant Rafael Ilyasov received the order "Doʻstlik" ("Friendship").

Ermatov directed four games at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He can now look back on a total of nine World Cup appearances. No other referee whistled as many games at World Cup finals in history.

At the FIFA Club World Cups in 2008 and 2011 , he directed two games each, including the finals. It has also been used frequently at the largest tournaments in Asia. In 2007 he led the final of the AFC Champions League and thus one of his biggest games to date. From 2008 to 2014 he was used in 33 games in this competition. He was also active as a referee at the 2004 (1 ×) and 2011 (4 ×) Asian football championships . In 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 he was named “Best Referee in Asia”.
