Sainte-Marguerite is a French commune with 2,319 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges and the canton of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges-2 (until 2015: canton of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges-Est ). The inhabitants are called margaritains .
geography
Sainte-Marguerite is located at the confluence of the Fave and Meurthe rivers in the Vosges . It is located about three kilometers southeast of the city center of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges . Neighboring municipalities of Sainte-Marguerite are Nayemont-les-Fosses in the north and northeast, Remomeix in the east, Entre-deux-Eaux in the southeast, Saulcy-sur-Meurthe in the south and southwest and Saint-Dié-des-Vosges in the northwest.
Route nationale 59 and the former route nationale 420 (today's D420) run through the municipality . The municipality's small station is served by trains on the Strasbourg – Saint-Dié line.
history
The history of the place goes back to the founding of a chapel by Charlemagne, who even then had Saint Margaret of Antioch (French: Sainte-Marguerite) in her name.
Destroyed several times during the war, the place was rebuilt again and again and experienced an increase in population after the First World War.
