The Scottish Football League Division One was played for the 63rd time in 1962/63 . It was also the 66th edition of the highest soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. It began on August 22, 1962 and ended on May 27, 1963. In the 1962/63 season, 18 clubs competed against each other in a total of 34 match days. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal quotient counted .
The championship won for the 33rd time in the club's history, the Glasgow Rangers . The Rangers qualified as champions for the following European Cup season-1963/64 . Third and fifth placed Partick Thistle and Heart of Midlothian qualified for the Messestädte Cup . As a defeated cup finalist , Celtic Glasgow qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup . The FC Clyde and Raith Rovers went into the Division Two from. The top scorer was Jimmy Millar of the Glasgow Rangers with 27 goals .
