This article is about FC Winterthur in the 2016/17 season . FC Winterthur played in the Challenge League this season , which he finished in 6th place after being in last place in the back round. In the Swiss Cup , the FCW kicked the BSC Young Boys out of the cup as an outsider in the quarter-finals and were eliminated in the subsequent semi-final against FC Basel .

After the rather mediocre last season, a large part of the team was replaced at the beginning of the new season. At the end of last season, various departures were known, in addition to the veteran striker Patrick Bengondo , Ramon Cecchini , Claudio Holenstein , Marco Köfler , Musa Araz and Christian Fassnacht left the club. Other departures that became known in the course of preparation were the second long-time offensive player João Paiva , who turned down a contract on poorer terms, Tunahan Çiçek , who moved to the second highest Turkish league to Boluspor , and the duo Sandro Foschini and Sead Hajrović , the both left the club in the direction of Wohlen . Before training started on June 16, the commitments of the offensive player Romain Dessarzin from Lausanne Sports , the "six" Krešo Ljubičić , former captain of the bankrupt FC Biel , and Nicola Sutter , who came from Thun to Winterthur for a year on loan , were already known. On the second day of training, the full-back Leandro Di Gregorio signed a new contract.

The first test matches in June were played by FCW against FC Rapperswil-Jona (2-2 draw), FC Luzern and SC Cham (each a 4-2 win) and also tested other players extensively in these. Jordi Nsiala (Oberwallis Naters, 1st division), Manuel Sutter from Vaduz and Luka Sliskovic on loan were signed for the offensive . The last commitment on the offensive was the Brazilian striker Silvio, who came from Austria . On the defensive, Daniele Russo from St. Gallen and the returnees Luca Radice , who played for Winterthur from 2006 to 2013, were signed. First round

FC Winterthur started the new season with an away game with an almost completely renewed squad, in the opening game in front of 13,704 spectators in Letzigrund against relegated FC Zurich , only four players from the starting lineup played for the Winterthur team last year. Second half

In preparation for the second half of the season, FCW has already started with its first new player, the Basler U21 international Arxhend Cani , an attacking midfielder. As further reinforcements, the strikers Rafhinha from SC Brühl St. Gallen and Zlatko Hebib , who most recently played for the relegated FC Biel , were committed to the central defense .
