final
The Scot Stephen Hendry rose to the dominant player of the 1990s when he defeated Steve James and Steve Davis 5: 3 after a narrow victory over one of the amateur players and thus reached the final. In this he met the Englishman John Parrott , who, in contrast to Hendry, had started the tournament with a white wash and had also made it to the final with victories over Mike Hallett and Gary Wilkinson .
Hendry dominated the start of the match and took the lead with the help of two high breaks with 3: 0 and after an approach by Parrott to 3: 2 with 5: 2. After the two players split the two following frames, Parrott was able to shorten it to 6: 5. But Hendry won the next frame with a 103 break - the highest break of the game - and finally the following frame with 75:21. Even if, according to the source used, the game would have ended with 8: 5, a score of 9: 5 as the final result is consensus.
