final

The Englishman John Parrott , ex-world champion in 1991, started the tournament with a relatively clear victory over a Chinese amateur player and reached the final with two victories in the decider . His Scottish competitor Stephen Hendry , at that time already five-time world champion, had won his first game with the help of a white washes and finally reached the final with more or less clear victories over Dennis Taylor and Steve Davis .

The final itself was very close. While it was 1: 1 after the first two frames, Parrott was also able to relieve himself with the help of an 84 break to 3: 1 and after a frame win on the part of Hendry to 5: 2, which made it seem as if he had almost won the game would have. But Hendry was able to win the following three frames with two higher breaks and thus save himself in the decider, which however clearly went to Parrott with 71:27, who thus won the game and the tournament.
