This list shows French names of (mostly) German-speaking places in Switzerland . The French names are still in use today for the larger cities in German-speaking Switzerland and z. In part for the places directly on the language border , while for example Praborgne (for Zermatt , derived from the original name Pratobornum ) is no longer used and has been forgotten.
