The Scottish Football League Division One was played for the 59th time in 1958/59 . It was also the 62nd edition of the highest soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. It began on August 20, 1958 and ended on April 21, 1959. In the 1958/59 season, 18 clubs competed against each other in 34 matchdays. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal quotient counted .
The championship was won by the Glasgow Rangers for the 31st time in their club's history . The Rangers qualified as champions for the following European Cup of the 1959/60 season . The FC Falkirk and Queen of the South went to the Division Two from. Joe Baker of Hibernian Edinburgh was the top scorer with 25 goals .
