The Scottish League Cup was played for the 70th time in 2015/16 . The Scottish Football League Cup, which is played among participants in the Premiership , Championship , League One and League Two , began on August 1, 2015 and ends with the final on March 13, 2016 in Hampden Park in Glasgow. If no winner is found in a duel after 90 minutes plus extra time, the game will be decided by a penalty shoot-out . As the defending champion, Celtic Glasgow started the competition, which won against Dundee United in the previous year's final . In the semifinals, last year's winner Celtic Glasgow faced Ross County , and the last remaining second division Hibernian Edinburgh faced FC St. Johnstone . The two teams from Celtic and St. Johnstone , who were favorites in their respective games , were surprisingly beaten. The Hibs from Edinburgh reached the final of the Scottish League Cup for the tenth time since 1951 . Only in 1973 , 1992 and 2007 was the title won. Ross County reached the League Cup final for the first time in the club's history. Ross County won the Scottish League Cup for the first time with a 2-1 final win over the second division side.
