It was first broadcast on September 28, 2012 on Nickelodeon . The German-language first broadcast took place on November 4, 2012 at the German Nickelodeon .

action

When ninjutsu master Hamato Yoshi (Splinter) is roaming the streets of New York with four baby turtles he has just bought, he comes across some strange men. As he pursues them, he accidentally steps on a rat, which is why he is discovered and has to fight the men. During the fight, a container that the men are carrying breaks and covers both Hamato Yoshi and the 4 turtles with a chemical (mutagen) that mutates Splinter into a giant rat and the turtles into human-like mutants.

In season one, on their 15th birthday, Splinter allows the turtles, whom he has named Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo, to leave the sewers for the first time. They stop the Kraang from kidnapping April O'Neil and become friends with her. From that moment on, the four brothers set themselves the task of protecting the citizens of New York and encounter dangerous enemies, above all the Shredder and his daughter Karai. They also try to uncover the Kraang's plans and prevent them.

At the beginning of the second season, the Turtles tried to stop a delivery of mutagen from the Kraang, the mutagen containers are scattered over New York, now it is the task of the Turtles to collect the mutagen containers as soon as possible. Donatello also makes it his mission to create a "retro mutagen" that can transform mutants back into humans. Apart from that, the Turtles try to get Karai on their side after it turns out that she is Splinter's daughter. After a Kraang invasion at the end of season two, the Turtles must flee town without a Splinter.

In the third season, the Turtles train in the country. There they meet new friends and enemies. After a few adventures in the woods, the Turtles and their friends return to New York to fight back the Kraang, encountering Slash and his team, the Mighthy Mutanimals, and reuniting with Splinter. After a tough battle, the Turtles manage to stop the Kraang and free the people of New York from Dimension X. As the season progresses, the Turtles continue to battle Shredder and his assistants, releasing Karai from Shredder's mind control. At the end of the season, the alien Triceratons start an invasion to destroy Earth and with it the Kraang, their worst enemies. This plan succeeds and Splinter is stabbed from behind by Shredder. At the last moment, however, the Turtles are rescued by the Fugitoid, a robot.

characters

Many of the characters are based on various characters, mainly from the Mirage Comics and the 1987 cartoon series .

The Turtles & Allies

  • Leonardo "Leo": Wears the blue bandana and fights with two katanas . He idolizes a science fiction television series called "Space Heroes" (a barely disguised parody of the classic Star Trek series) and its portrayal of the hero character. He is the leader of the Turtle team and in love with Karai, which doesn't change after he learns that she is actually his adoptive sister. In the season 2 finale, Shredder seriously injures him and puts him in a coma for 3 months. He then wakes up again, albeit with a serious knee injury, which heals within the third season. He is also much stronger in the 3rd season. B. can see that it can hold its own against shredders quite well.
  • Raphael "Raph": Wears the red bandana and fights with two sais . He is the hothead of the group, who often throws himself into a fight without any thought and therefore has an argument with Leonardo. The only one protected from his bad mood is his pet turtle Spike, to whom he can confide his most secret thoughts. He doesn't like being insulted and is terrified of cockroaches.
  • Donatello "Donnie": Wears the purple bandana and fights with a , who can also function as a Naginata by means of an extendable blade . Donatello is the genius behind the equipment of the Turtles, such as: B. the Shellraiser or Metalhead. But sometimes he is very know-it-all, which is particularly annoying to Raphael. To the mockery of his brothers, he fell in love with April - as did Casey, which often causes arguments between the two.
  • Michelangelo "Mikey": Wears the orange bandana and fights with his nunchucks , which can also function as kusarigama . As the fun-seeking, not particularly intelligent kid's head, he is the one who is responsible for the general naming of their opponents and items of equipment. He loves skateboarding, video games, and especially pizza. But he is a very good shooter, which he demonstrates with archery and throwing depth charges. In dimension X he is the leader and a genius.
  • Splinter : A mutant rat that was once a human named Hamato Yoshi . He lost his wife and daughter in a fight with Shredder, who was brought up by Shredder to believe that Splinter had killed her mother. He often wanders through the sewers, carrying a staff with him, which is a symbol of his balance. He is an experienced ninja master and trains the four turtles in the art of ninjutsu and is a father figure for them. Later he is killed by the mutated shredder during a fight, but from now on he is still a ghost to the side with advice and action.
  • April O'Neil : A 16 year old girl who ran into the Turtles when she and her father were kidnapped by the Kraang . She is later trained by Splinter to become a Kunoichi , a female ninja. In the course of her training, she also gets her own weapon, a tessen . During the course of the second season, April develops telepathic powers and learns that it is the product of a mixture of human and Kraang DNA - a mixture that is vital for the Kraang's plans for conquest. She was very afraid of her mutated father. For biological reasons it cannot mutate.
  • Casey Jones : A seventeen-year-old hockey-loving classmate of April who appears from season two. He's one of April's most important friends outside of the Turtles, and while he often plays pretty cocky, he's also showing more sensitive sides. In the course of time he learns about the Turtles. His primary weapon is a hockey stick; however, there are also baseball bats, cricket bats, exploding hockey pucks, stun guns and color grenades in his arsenal. He is terrified of rats and thus also of Splinter, but he tries to get him used to this fear. On patrols he wears a hockey mask shaped like a skull. *
  • Karai : A Kunoichi in the service of Shredder and Splinter's biological daughter, who was kidnapped by Shredder in a house fire and raised to believe that she was his daughter, whose mother was murdered by Hamato Yoshi. She develops a hatred of April and is often viewed as their enemy. The Turtles, especially Leonardo - with whom she fell in love - try to win her over as a comrade-in-arms and convince them that she is Splinter's daughter, which they succeed in the second season. Then, because she is no longer of any use to Shredder, she is thrown into dungeon by her adoptive father. When the Turtles were able to free her, however, she wanted revenge on Shredder. That failed and she was mutated into a three-headed albino snake monster. Nevertheless, it can take on its human form by moulting, but with fangs and completely green eyes. She seems to have kept her mind and character after the mutation (in contrast to various others), but with a lot of hatred and a lot of vengeance on Shredder. She was later captured by Bebop and Rocksteady and retro-mutated almost perfectly by Baxter Stockman, but as a human she is still able to transform into her mutated form. However, Shredder planted a parasitic worm in her, which ensures that she can no longer remember her true identity, and believes she is Shredder's daughter, whereupon she hunts the Turtles and their allies. Later, however, thanks to Splinter's healing hands, she is freed from the worm and becomes a loyal ally of the Turtles again.

Mighty Mutanimals

  • Slash : He was originally called Spike and was Raphael's pet turtle. In the second season he becomes the mutant Slash . Since he received four times the dose of mutagen he is twice the size of the turtles on average. He also has a weapon, a morning star, wears a black bandana and, unlike the other Turtles, has a bluish skin color. He also unites Raphael's hatred of the other Turtles, his irascibility and his fighting techniques. He worked with the Molchinator for a while, but realizing that the Molchinator has no heart, he joins the Turtles to fight him. Although he still prefers to fight alone, he remains an ally of the Turtles.
  • Leatherhead : A mutated crocodile who stole an energy cell from the Kraang, without which they can no longer operate the portal to their dimension. The Turtles discovered him by chance and became friends with him. When trying to destroy the portal with the Turtles, he was transported back into the Kraang dimension. The Turtles were able to free him after a long time.
  • Monkey Brains A mutant monkey that was mutated by Victor Falco. Its ability is to shoot rays of thought.
  • Garbage Man : A toxic-poisonous garbage monster. His fused partner is called Joe Eyeball, which is a mutated eyeball. The name Joe Eyeball comes from Mikey. Garbage man befriends the Turtles and decides not to let himself be transformed back and instead becomes a member of the "Mighty Mutanimals". In the original he is called Muckman .
  • Mondo Gecko was a skater named Jason until he merged with his tame gecko in an accident with a mutagen container. He befriends Mikey and Casey in season three to extradite the two Fishface . But when he realizes that his new friends are more important to him than his boss, he helps them escape and renounces the criminal underground of New York. Mondo then becomes a member of the "Mighty Mutanimals"

The main enemies of the Turtles

  • Shredder : His real name is Oruku Saki. He is the leader of the Foot Clan and responsible for Hamato Yoshi's wife's death in a house fire that left him disfigured. He kidnapped Hamato Yoshi's daughter and raised her to believe she was his own daughter by the name of Karai. He later allied with the Kraang to finally destroy the Turtles and Splinter. He's also a ninja master who is at least as strong as Splinter. He is driven by revenge and desperately wants to eliminate Splinter and the Turtles and will not stop at anything. He controls a lot of gangs in the city and has many subjects. However, in the fight against the Triceratons, he kills Splinter. After defeating the Triceratons, Shredder is defeated and injured by Splinter. He then lets Baxter Stockman transform himself into a mutant and becomes a mega-shredder. He succeeds in killing him after hard fights with the Turtles and their allies Splinter. Mega Shredder is later killed in battle by Leonardo.
  • Foot Soldiers : An army of ninjas trained by Chris Bradford. In the course of the series, the Kraang and Karai replace them with robot ninjas, so-called foot bots .
  • Dogpund / Rahzar : Chris Bradford is a martial arts idol based on Chuck Norris . He was trained in the art of ninjutsu by Shredder for years. After a mutagen accident over the course of the series, Bradford becomes a mutant dog named Dogpound . Later he is mutated again, to a werewolf mutant named Rahzar . His biggest enemy among the Turtles is Mikey and his (involuntary) partner in the fight against the Turtles is Fishface.
  • Fishface : Xever was a Brazilian street gangster who served as Shredders adjutant alongside Bradford. After the joint mutagen accident with Bradford, he becomes the fish man Fishface . Because of his mutant species (fish) he has a lot of respect for Tiger Claw (tiger). His greatest enemy among the Turtles is Raph and his (involuntary) partner in the fight against the Turtles is Chris Bradford. Xever fights the Brazilian fighting style "Capoeira" and is also good at handling various weapons.
  • Tiger Claw : A tiger mutant that appears in Season 2. He mutated early as a child and grew up in the circus. Over time, he has acquired skills that have made him a highly dangerous fighter and not an easy opponent even for Splinter. He takes over Karai's post in the Foot Clan, which she resents him very much. For a short time he was transported to another dimension together with the Kraathadrogons, but was able to escape it. From then on he has an eye patch. He has a lot of combat gear, including some pistols, a machete, and a rocket backpack.
  • Purple Dragons : Three street gangsters from the Chinatown neighborhood named Fong , Tsoi and Sid , who are part of Shredder's supporters but do not pose a great threat. At least until they get a new leader named Hun in Season 3 , who is a challenge for the Turtles and his personal archenemy Casey.
  • Baxter Stockman : An African-American engineer in electronics and robotics, who, however, always gets into faux pas due to his clumsiness. He was briefly forced by Shredder to work for the Foot Clan, which is why he built mechanical legs for Fishface. He left the Foot Clan after betraying Fishface and Dogpound, but was later tracked down and brought back by Bradford, Xever and Karai. In the second season he mutates into a fly mutant named Buzzkil . However, only his head and arms are affected by the change and he has fly wings on his back.
  • MOUSERS:: Mousers are robots built by Baxter Stockman. They usually attack in droves, which makes them serious opponents despite their lack of combat strength.
  • Bebop : As a person, he was a master thief who was supposed to steal Shredder's helmet for Steranko , which didn't quite work out. Later he was mutated by Shredder to a warthog mutant named Bebop and was to serve Shredder together with his partner Steranko. He has high tech laser armor that allows him to shoot lasers from his hips, hands and hair. He can also make himself invisible and has many other weapons.
  • Rocksteady : As a person, an arms dealer and collector who was kind of friends with Shredder. At least until he ordered Anton Zeck to steal Shredder's helmet and hunted his snake daughter with him. As a punishment, Ivan Steranko was turned into a rhinoceros mutant named Rocksteady and from then on had to serve Shredder, together with his partner Anton Zeck. As a rhinoceros he has of course become a lot stronger and therefore a real challenge for the Turtles. He is of Russian descent, which can be clearly heard from his accent. Appropriately, he fights with hammer and sickle.
  • Kraang : A race of extraterrestrial beings who plan to colonize the earth for their people. In order not to attract attention on earth, they move in human-like exoskeletons. They want to turn the earth into a place to live. These characters are an effective amalgamation of the Utroms from the Mirage Comics and the character Krang from the 1987 animated series .
    • Kraang Primus : The leader of the Kraang, who orders and coordinates the invasion of her followers on earth. In the original it is called Kraang Prime.
    • Kraang Sub-Primus : Kraang Sub-Primus poses as April's best friend and a nerd. As "Irma Langinstein" he gets involved in some mutagen cases during the series and finds out that April has "secret friends" whom she does not want to introduce to her. But after April and she were followed by Foot Bots, they had to go into the sewers, where Irma discovered the Turtles and their hiding place. Then it came out that she is in reality a camouflaged spy and the chief henchman of Kraang Primus: Kraang Sub-Primus (original Kraang Sub-Prime ). He then betrayed the Turtles' hiding place to other Kraang, but was defeated by Splinter in a duel. He later returned while the Turtles and Mutanimals tried to save the city, but was defeated again. He has a very large exoskeleton and is a dangerous fighter.
  • Triceratons : They are a race of alien dinosaurs. On earth they can only breathe with oxygen bottles. Your goal is to take out the Kraang, because the Kraang have destroyed their home. They have a black hole generator that can destroy entire planets. Their leader is Captain Mozar .
    • Mozar : The leader of the Triceratons. He's a very brutal commander. He gives orders to the Triceratons.
  • Lord Dregg : Lord Dregg is the ruler of an insectoid race, the predominant species on the planet Sectoid One. After the Turtles accidentally screw up a tough business for him, Dregg declares himself to be their mortal enemy and tries to eliminate them every time the opportunity arises, for which he also hires the bounty hunter Armaggon. But it is later revealed that Dregg is actually a robot in disguise. In continuing his hunt for retaliation, Dregg helped the Triceratoni find the last part of the black hole generator, but was ultimately betrayed by them and thrown into space. In the end, Dregg died.
  • Rat King : Dr. Victor Falco was an unscrupulous scientist who bought the Kraang mutagen in order to experiment with it. In the course of the series he gets the ability to control rats (and thus also Splinter) and becomes the figure known from the Mirage Comics, the Rat King.
  • Mutagen Man : Timothy, or as he called himself "Pulverizer", was once a fan who watched the Turtles fight their first fight with Baxter Stockman and has since tried to emulate them. During the course of the first season, he becomes a slime mutant. His mutation was caused by himself as he was hoping to become a turtle. He can often be seen in a glass cylinder filled with water in Donatello's laboratory because Donatello needs his DNA for the retro mutagen. When he comes into contact with mutagen again later, his arms and legs grow and he becomes a mutagen man . He can now move around New York on the move and accordingly causes chaos. Mutagen-Mann also becomes an enemy of the Turtles and fights against them. In the fight with him, the Turtles manage to freeze him with the so-called ice mutagen and place him safely in Donatello's laboratory.
  • Molchinator (in the original Newtralizer ): A mutated newt that was locked up by the Kraang. When Donatello tried to free Kirby, he also freed him. He is very aggressive, heavily armed and very robust. He is an enemy of the Kraang because they are his favorite food. He may be a living being from dimension X. He is one of the few enemies of the Turtles who was named not by Michelangelo but by Donatello. He worked with Slash for a while to defeat the Kraang, but plans to destroy New York in the process. This made him a new and powerful enemy in Slash.
  • Dream beavers : The beavers that invade people's dreams. There they turn the dream into a nightmare and deprive their victim of vitality when he sleeps. The beavers are called Dark Beavers , Scary Beavers , Dread Beavers and Dave Beavers . But ultimately the Turtles find out that the beavers in the real world are just small, talking beavers with no special skills.
  • Armaggon : An alien, shark-like bounty hunter who uses a combat suit that has been adapted to his physiology and looks like a shark as a vehicle and weapon at the same time. He first appears when Lord Dregg hires him to take revenge on the Turtles for him. After several attempts on his part to kill the Turtles, he is pushed to a so-called "Scorponoid" in a fight by Leonardo and killed by this being.

Other important characters

  • Fugitoid : Fugitoid rescued the Turtles, April and Casey in the season three finale with his ship Ulixes. He then takes her on a journey into space. Fugitoid, whose real name is Professor Honeycutt, is a cyborg whose brain was transplanted into his body by his robot assistant SAL after the Triceratons destroyed Honeycutts' biological bodies because the latter refused to build them weapons. Before that, however, he invented the black hole generator and sold it to Kraang. His conscience led him to neutralize the weapon and undo its dire effects.
  • Kirby O'Neil / Kirby Bat : A scientist and the father of April, who was kidnapped by the Kraang, but is freed by the Turtles at the end of the first season. However, he was hypnotized by the Kraang and Shredder. Donatello was able to break the hypnosis for good. Due to a later serious mistake by the Turtles, he was doused with mutagen and turned into a bat mutant named Kirby Bat . Later, with the help of the retro mutagen developed by Donatello, it is converted back again, without any memories of its mutation. After that, he is mutated into a Kraang human by Kraang Prime during a Kraang invasion.
  • Metalhead : A robot turtle built by Donatello from parts of a Kraang droid, which is intended for heavy combat missions. Originally it was just a remote-controlled fighting machine by Donatello, later Donatello gives it a consciousness and its own character. Metalhead is brave, helpful and skilled. When there is no combat mission ahead, he helps Donatello with his projects. To help the Turtles and some mutants escape from the Kraang base, he stayed behind and self-destructed to allow their escape.
  • Punk frogs : A frog colony with their leader Attila the frog and the team Genghis frog , Napoleon Bonafrosch and Rasputin the crazy frog , but also other "frog warriors". These frogs want to conquer the Turtles' farm and attack the human world, which the Turtles prevent. Accidentally they destroy the frogs' home (a tree fortress). The frogs become allies and move to Louisiana. The punk frogs were originally invented for the 1987 series and expanded into the 2003 series.

  • Bigfoot : A great ape that roams the woods. He allies himself with the Turtles in season 3. The turtles protect him from the finger .
  • The finger : a hunter who hunts animals in the woods. One animal he especially wants is "Bigfoot". In addition, "The Finger" has 6 fingers. He's always talking with a mask he calls "Mama". When he finds out that Bigfoot is female, he does nothing to him and he forgives Bigfoot.
  • Mrs. O'Neil : She is / was the mother of April and the wife of Kirby O'Neil. Shortly before April was born, she was kidnapped by the Kraang, and the unborn April was mutated so that the Kraang could later use her as a weapon. After April was born, the Kraang wanted to kidnap her, but April's mother was kidnapped instead. DNA was taken from her, giving the Kraang the opportunity to create a copy of her, which April's trust is to win and to kidnap her. This copy became unstable, however, and became a creature known today as the "mom thing", which became too dangerous for the Kraang and had to lock her up. Mom-Ding was later discovered by the Turtles and defeated by April, whether April's real mother is still alive today is unknown.
  • Mom-Thing : A Kraang experiment that looks like April's mother. She pretends to be April's mom, but Mikey finds out she's a mutant. She wants to bring April to the Kraang so that the great invasion can start! She turned into a monster with a divisible head, poisonous spores and slime. She turned the Turtles into zombie kraang. But in the meantime Mom-Thing was defeated and finished off by April. It was a mixture of Kraang and human DNA. It's also her fault that the punk frogs mutated.
  • Bernie : Is a salesman who hasn't slept in 40 years and locked up those dream beavers. He's also crazy and attacked Casey Jones with a chainsaw. But when he and the Turtles found out that the dream beavers outside of dreams are just mutated normal-sized beavers without any skills, he confesses to calm and falls asleep to catch up on his 40 years of sleep.
  • Speed Demon : A mutated car that was mutated during a mutagenic accident of the "punk frogs". It fights against Casey, after all it had been defeated, but from that the "Chimera" emerged!

In her debut episode The Eyes of the Chimera , she takes Raph , Donnie , Mikey and Casey to their nest, so that the still wounded Leo and the temporarily blind April have to save their friends. The fight ends in a victory for the Turtles, but a cliffhanger shows that the Chimera was not completely killed.

They keep Tang Shen from falling in love with Oroku Saki (the later Shredder). Tang Shen died in a fight between Saki and Yoshi, as recounted in the flashback, whereby the Turtles could not prevent their death, as their survival is radically the future could change. production

After Nickelodeon bought the worldwide rights to the TMNT brand from the Mirage Group and 4kids Entertainment in 2009, it was announced that a new television series would be produced for 2012 and a new feature film for 2013.

A first teaser trailer for the new series was published under the title Mutation in Progress in March 2011, in which it can be clearly seen that two of the Turtles have received new weapons for the series. Donatello exchanges his baton for a Naginata and Michelangelo exchanges his nunchaku for a Kusarigama .

At the Licensing Expo in America, a first advertising image for the new series was exhibited with the classic exclamation " Turtle Power! ". The picture also shows the four Turtles, with Donatello and Michelangelo carrying their original weapons with them again.

At the San Diego Comic Con 2011, Nickelodeon held another preview event , where the producers published some new information about the series: The series should contain many elements of the previous comics and series, whereby one would like to reach a new level with the Ninja Turtles . You will be more concerned with the ninjutsu lifestyle, which is not limited to fighting techniques. Furthermore, the personalities of the turtles have been refined in order to be able to distinguish the four turtles more easily. Splinter will be shown much bigger and younger than in the previous incarnations, so that he can better survive in a fight against Shredder. Like Splinter, April is much younger than before in this version, as the Nickelodeon writers found it scary that a 30-year-old woman was hanging around with four teenage turtles. She is also being taught by Splinter to become a Kunoichi , a female ninja. The Kraang were also introduced for the first time, and so this alien breed is a nasty reinterpretation of the Utroms from the original comics.

On June 21, 2012, the first trailer with scenes from the series was published on the Insidetv.EW website, with an initial broadcast for autumn 2012 announced. In addition to the first moving scenes with the four turtles, you can also see the shredder and his foot ninjas in the trailer. A new edition of the theme song of the first Ninja Turtles series is used as background music in the trailer .

Shortly after the premiere of the first season, the series was extended by Nickelodeon in early October 2012 for a second season, consisting of a further 26 episodes. During the Nickelodeon Upfront presentation in New York it was announced that the series had already been extended for a third season. On June 18, 2014, the series was extended by a fourth season, consisting of 20 episodes, and it was announced that Seth Green will replace Jason Biggs as the spokesman for Leonardo from the third season.
