The most important events of the table tennis season 1965/66 were the European championship in 1966 and the qualification for the newly created Bundesliga .
Major Leagues
The first of the four major leagues played for the German men's team championship. In contrast to previous years, the second did not get a chance, as they were fighting for promotion to the newly founded Bundesliga . The first wore a first and second leg in a semi-final according to the scheme north against south and west against southwest. The winners made it to the final.
In the women’s category, the first two in each upper division group and the first two in the south and south-west were divided into groups of four. In the mode everyone against everyone, the group winners were determined, who then contested the final. The division into groups of four was determined in advance: Group I = West I + South I + Southwest II + North II, Group II = rest.
