Evgeni Prokopjewitsch Beljajew ( Russian: Евге́ний Прокопьевич Беля́ев ; born March 20, 1954 in Kirovsk , Murmansk Oblast ; † March 17, 2003 ) was a Russian cross-country skier who started for the Soviet Union in the 1970s and early 1980s .

Career

Beljajew appeared internationally for the first time at the European Junior Championships 1973 in Kawgolowo . There he won the silver medal over 15 km and the gold medal with the relay. The following year he also won the gold medal with the relay at the European Junior Championships in Autrans . In 1975 he won the Svenska Skidspelen with the relay and also took third place over 30 km. He also came third in the 15 km run at the Lahti Ski Games and won bronze over 15 km at the Winter Universiade in Livigno . At the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck he won the bronze medal with the relay and the silver medal over 15 km. He also achieved 38th place over 50 km there. In March 1976 he finished second at the Lahti Ski Games over 15 km. The following year he triumphed again at the Svenska Skidspelen and the Lahti Ski Games with the relay. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1978 , he won the silver medal over 15 km and 50 km. Two years later, he won the relay gold medal at the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid . In the individual races he came in 11th place over 30 km, sixth place over 50 km and fifth place over 15 km. In March 1981 he was third in the 15 km run at the Lahti Ski Games. At the Soviet championships Belyayev won twice over 50 km (1978, 1981) and once with the relay (1983).
