The Austrian Football Championship 1921/22 was organized by the Lower Austrian Football Association and contested by its members. The double-track second class served as the substructure for the first class . In addition, other federal state associations organized state championships in different modes.
The championship in the first class was contested by 13 teams who met twice during the entire season. The sports club that won its first championship title became Austrian football champions. With the FC Ostmark, the bottom of the table had to relegate to the second class, he was replaced by second division champions WAC in the coming season.
In the second class , a total of 14 teams played for promotion to the first class, each of which met twice during the entire season. The master WAC was able to advance by winning the performance level; Since the second class consisted of two relays of 11 teams each in the following season, all clubs could remain in this performance level. In addition, with SV Donau Wien , Favoritner FK Sturm , SV Straßenbahn Wien , SC Baumgarten , SC Movement XX , SC Phönizia Wien , SC Neubau , SC Nicholson Wien , eight newcomers came in the coming season. The syndicate between the Wiener Sportfreunde and Ottakringer SC that had been formed last year was dissolved again.
In the previous year, the Upper Austrian clubs played in the joint Upper Austria - Salzburg league with Salzburg clubs. After the first championship held in 1918/19 was declared invalid, the regional champion was determined for the first time in a purely Upper Austrian regional class this year. By increasing the 1st class to seven clubs in the following season, there was no relegation.
After a joint league with the clubs from Upper Austria was played in the preseason , in which the 1st Salzburg SK was allowed to participate in 1919 , the Salzburg Football Association decided to introduce its own Salzburg regional class this season . The 1st SSK in 1919 was able to successfully defend this title after winning the first national championship title in the club's history the previous year without a fight. With the Salzburger AK 1914, the oldest football club in the state of Salzburg has now entered the championship. The footballers from Oberndorf , whose club, founded in 1921, was the oldest club outside the city, held up surprisingly well in the first year of the game . On the other hand, the two other Flachgau clubs from Neumarkt and Itzling , which until 1935 did not belong to the state capital, but was still part of the independent community of Gnigl , had no chance . Due to the difference in performance, both clubs had to retire from the league at the end of the season. No newcomers were admitted for the following season.
