The Austrian football championship 1926/27 was organized by the WFV association and contested by its members. The single-track II. League served as a substructure for the I. League . These leagues were only accessible to professional football clubs . In addition, other federal state associations organized state championships in different modes on an amateur basis.

I. League

The championship in the 1926/27 season saw the sensational rise of Brigittenauer AC, which had played in the second league the year before. The club was in the lead for a long time, on the last day of the match it was supposed to be a direct duel with Admira for the championship title. The Brigittenauer owed their success above all to goalkeeper Franz Köhler, who conceded only 19 goals in the previous 23 games, a rate that was unique for the time. Over 20,000 spectators flocked to the completely overcrowded WAC pitch for the playoff. However, the Brigittenauer played as if paralyzed by their nervousness, the Admira was crowned Austrian football champion for the first time with a 5-0 victory. The Jedleseer took part in the Mitropapokal 1927 together with Cup winner Rapid , where Rapid however attracted all his attention in Austria with the entry into the final.
