Last year's winner in the individual was Jarkko Nieminen , he could not defend the title because he was eliminated in the quarterfinals against the eventual winner Bernard Tomic , who with a three-set win (6: 3, 6: 7 2 , 6: 3) over Kevin Anderson straight in won the title in his first ATP final. In doubles, the brothers Bob and Mike Bryan defended their title from the previous year, in the final they defeated Max Mirny and Horia Tecău .
The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs.
The qualification for the Apia International Sydney 2013 took place from 4th to 6th January 2013. Four qualifying places were played that entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
At the Apia International Sydney 2013 the following prize money and world ranking points were paid out or credited for reaching the respective round. Players who entered the main field from qualification received the specified qualification points in addition to those for reaching the respective round.
