The BMW 2000 GL / 2000 SA and the less powerful BMW 1800 GL / 1800 SA are mid-range cars that were built from 1968 to 1973 by Praetor Monteerders , the South African BMW importer. After the discontinuation of the glass in 1700 , the body tools were left to the South African BMW importer. He wanted to set up his own production, but would have been overwhelmed with the types of the "New Class", which were manufactured in Munich on partially automated welding lines. Therefore, the less elaborately constructed glass 1700 offered itself. The new models were presented in April 1968.

They were equipped with the drives of the BMW 1800 and 2000 manufactured in Germany . These were four-cylinder in-line engines with 1760 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 89 mm × 71 mm) and 66 kW (90 hp) output at 5250 min ⁻¹ , and 1990 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 89 mm × 80 mm) and 74 kW (100 hp) at 5800 min ^-1 , in connection with a 4-speed manual transmissions, center circuit.

The bodies of the four-door sedans, with the exception of the trunk lid, corresponded to that of the Glas 1700 developed by Frua , with the glass emblems being exchanged for those from BMW. Frua had also developed a station wagon body and offered it to BMW. But this car remained a one-off.

In 1972 Frua received the order to revise the body. The front was adapted to the BMW family and modern round instruments were installed. In this form, the models were sold from 1973 as 1804 and 2004 .

The vehicles were sold under the name Cheetah (English for cheetah ) with 1600, 1800 and 2000 cm³ in Rhodesia (partly also assembled at WMI ).

Overall, more than twice the number of the Frua limousine was built in South Africa than Glas in Dingolfing. Then BMW took over the company Praetor Monteerders, from which BMW South Africa emerged.
