The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Sens and the canton of Brienon-sur-Armançon (until 2015 Villeneuve-l'Archevêque ). The inhabitants are called Balnéotiens .

Bagneaux is located on the Vanne , about 30 kilometers east-northeast of Sens . Bagneaux is surrounded by the neighboring communities Courgenay in the north and northwest, Planty in the northeast, Vulaines in the east, Flacy in the south and Villeneuve-l'Archevêque in the west.
