Gambsheim is a French commune with 4,883 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). On January 1, 2015, Gambsheim moved from the Arrondissement Strasbourg-Campagne to the Arrondissement Haguenau-Wissembourg .

The municipality is crossed by the Strasbourg – Lauterbourg railway line and has a train station.

The largest structure in the municipality is the Gambsheim barrage , where the largest locks on the navigable inland waterways in France are located. At the level of the locks is the Center d'Alerte Rhénan d'Informations Nautiques de Gambsheim (CARING for short; German for example: Gambsheimer Rhein-Alarmzentrale für Nautische Informations), a French emergency call and information center for navigation on the Rhine. The reporting office takes on the tasks of a district control center and is connected to the reporting and information system for inland navigation on the Rhine and Main. There is a visitor center at the Rhine crossing. Here the fish ladder and the fish can be viewed through glass panes as they overcome the dam.
