Saint-Saturnin Church

Castanet ( Occitan is identical) is a French commune of the department of Aveyron with 513 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the region Occitania (before 2016 Midi-Pyrenees ). It is assigned to the canton of Ceor-Ségala ( Baraqueville-Sauveterre until 2015 ) and the Arrondissement of Villefranche-de-Rouergue (until 2017 Rodez ). The inhabitants are called Castanetois .

geography

Castanet is located in one of the southwestern foothills of the Massif Central on the Ségala plateau in the historic province of Rouergue about 23 kilometers west southwest of Rodez . The river Rieux de Villelongue runs to the east and its tributary Fréjalieu to the west . Castanet is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Colombiès in the north, Boussac in the east, Gramond in the southeast, Sauveterre-de-Rouergue in the south, Pradinas in the south and southwest and Rieupeyroux in the west.
