The Cedar County is a county in the US state of Nebraska . The county seat is Hartington , named after the English Lord Hartington .

The county is located in the extreme northeast of Nebraska on the border with South Dakota and has an area of 1932 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history
Cedar County was formed in 1855 on part of Dixon and Pierce Counties. It was named after the coniferous trees that grew abundantly here and belonged to one of the species known in North America as cedar (" cedar ").

According to the 2000 census , Cedar County had 9,615 people in 3,623 households and 2,565 families. The population density was 5 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 99.07 percent white, 0.10 percent African American, 0.20 percent Native American, 0.04 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.18 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.40 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 0.43 percent of the population.
Of the 3,623 households, 34.8 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 63.6 percent were married couples living together, 4.3 percent were single mothers, 29.2 percent were non-families, 27.0 percent were single households, and 15.7 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.20.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 29.4 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 6.0 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.2 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 20.3 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 20.0 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 100.1 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 97.1 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 33,435 , and the median income for a family is $ 39,422. Males had a median income of $ 26,707 versus $ 18,370 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,514. 6.3 percent of families and 9.1 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 10.7 percent were children or young people under the age of 18 and 9.7 percent were people over 65 years of age.
