The 1995/96 DEL season was the second season of the German Ice Hockey League . For Mad Dogs Munich, who had left the previous year for financial reasons, SC Riessersee was added in 1995 , which, however, also had to give up after the season for financial reasons. Mode and rules
In contrast to the previous year, this season was played without regional groups, but with a preliminary and intermediate round. After a single round with a return match between the 18 teams, the table was divided and the teams on the even places played a single round against each other while those on the odd places played an analog intermediate round. In a subsequent play-off round, the 16 best teams from the main round competed against each other.
Main round
After the main round, the first four teams were only two points apart, while the only two teams from the new federal states did not make it into the play-offs.
