Dawson County is a county in the US state of Nebraska . The county seat is Lexington , which was named after the Battle of Lexington in the American Revolutionary War .

The county is located south of the geographic center of Nebraska and has an area of ​​2,640 square kilometers, of which 16 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history

Dawson County was formed in 1860 on former Indian land. It was named after John Littleton Dawson (1813-1870), a member of the United States House of Representatives (1851-1855, 1863-1867).

Eight structures in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 10, 2018).
