Gereut ( Fersental : Garait , Italian : Frassilongo ) is a municipality with 338 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Fersental in the province of Trento . The majority of the population belongs to the Fersental community, a Bavarian- speaking ethnic group. The municipality also includes the higher-lying district of Eichleit ( Oachlait in the heel valley, Roveda in Italian ).

The German name Gereut means 'clearing'. The origin of the Italian place name (which sometimes appeared in the German Fraschelung ) is uncertain; It probably comes from frasso, from the Latin fraxinus (Italian: frassino ), 'ash' , connected with lungo 'long, high'.

The high-lying district of Kamauz ( Kamaovrunt in heel-talism ) is picturesque for its architecture and location .
