Keith Jarrett / discography
This discography gives an overview of the released sound carriers by the American jazz and classical pianist, band leader and composer Keith Jarrett .
structure
The discography is structured systematically according to his creative focus and is arranged chronologically according to the date of recording. If you are interested in a complete chronological overview, please refer to the literature listed below on the Keith Jarrett Catalog at jazzdisco.org or the compilations at discogs.com, which currently provide the most detailed overview of his work.
In the Jazz section , all of Keith Jarrett's jazz albums that he recorded as a soloist , bandleader or co-leader are listed, starting with the solo improvisations as a pianist (25 albums in total). With the album The Köln Concert he finally achieved the greatest degree of recognition as a musician; it also achieved the greatest commercial success. In terms of systematics, his few duo recordings (three albums in total) follow, of which the interplay with Charlie Haden (bass) on the Jasmine and Last Dance albums attracted attention and made chart placements. Then his trio recordings are listed (a total of 27 albums): first the early recordings with Charlie Haden (bass) and Paul Motian ( drums ), his "first American trio" and then the numerous recordings with Gary Peacock (bass) and Jack DeJohnette (drums), the "second American or standard trio". Keith Jarrett has been interpreting well-known and less well-known jazz standards with the latter two musicians for more than thirty years . This is followed by his quartet recordings (a total of 20 albums, including albums that collect recordings from various artists): on the one hand, the recordings with Dewey Redman ( saxophone ), Charlie Haden (bass) and Paul Motian (drums) in the so-called American quartet ( which was often expanded to include a percussionist to form a quintet), on the other hand the recordings with Jan Garbarek (saxophone), Palle Danielson (bass) and Jon Christensen (drums) in the “European quartet”. Other jazz albums that Keith Jarrett has recorded as bandleader or co-leader are listed as bandleader in the Other Albums section (a total of four albums, including the album Expectations , which promoted its breakthrough in North America).
This is followed by all music albums in which Keith Jarrett worked as a sideman (a total of 43 albums under 14 band leaders). Particularly noteworthy are the early works in combination with Art Blakey , Charles Lloyd and Miles Davis from Keith Jarrett's “Apprenticeship” as well as the works in which he was available as a sideman to his fellow musicians Charlie Haden, Paul Motian and Gary Peacock. For the sake of completeness , all singles / EPs (14 singles / EPs in total) and compilations (31 compilations in total) are listed in the Jazz section .
The Classical section initially lists all of Keith Jarrett's own composed works (a total of seven albums), followed by his interpretations of other classical and contemporary composers (a total of 18 albums). Finally, all available video recordings, DVDs and film recordings by and about Keith Jarrett are documented in the “filmography” (a total of 20 recordings), divided into the categories of music videos and film documentaries.
The chart positions of Keith Jarrett's albums were not included in the discography. See the compilation in the → main article: Keith Jarrett .
