    The Netherlands has a rail network of around 2800 km. Three quarters of them are electrified, one third is single-track. With the exception of a few narrow-gauge industrial railways , the railways in the Netherlands are built exclusively in standard gauge .

    In contrast to the motorways in the Netherlands and the railway lines in Belgium, no line numbers are used for the railway lines, so the lines simply have the name of the start and end station.
