List of comets

The tables below contain a list of comets that have been observed in at least two perihelion passages and a selection of notable non- or long-period comets .

Comets are given a systematic name when they are discovered . Besides getting short-period comets (round trip time of less than 200 years) preceded by a serial number permanently once they are stored as such, in particular, for example, by the observation of a second perihelion.

The Minor Planet Center of the IAU is responsible for counting.
