background

In June 2010 it was announced that Rihanna was working on her fifth studio album and that it would be released by the end of the year. The songwriters and producers of the album are Taio Cruz , Alex da Kid , Sean Garrett , Ne-Yo , Rico Love, Timbaland , Shontelle , David Guetta and Drake .

  • In an interview, Rihanna stated:

“I also miss the Rated R era a lot, but nothing can compare my new album to the others, I made sure that I won't disappoint you with the album. [...] You always stood by me, so now you have some great songs that justify that. […] I don't want to present the successor to Good Girl Gone Bad with this album . I want to continue and take the next step in Rihanna's evolution, and we think it worked out perfectly. [...] Everyone should be loud, crazy, excited because I give everything, because I want a lot more of everything. On the album, I'm just myself, and that's the way you want it, and that's what feels like the best to me. I'm just normal, normal for me is “loud”! Cute, fun, flirty, energetic. […] Loud is the word, the name of the album, which definitely reflects its message, it is really lovable and turning on and demands your attention, that's why I like it that way. The album accompanies you on a really very interesting, colorful journey. "

- Excerpt from the interview with Rihanna from about.com

"I'm gonna miss the rated R era too, but nothing compares to the album I just made, I made sure not to let you down with my music. […] You guys are always defending me, so now you've got some great songs to justify it. [...] I didn't want to go backward and remake Good Girl Gone Bad . I wanted the next step in the evolution of Rihanna, and it's perfect for us. […] Get loud everybody, get crazy, get excited, because I'm pumped. I'm just gonna be me, because that's what you guys love the most, and that's what makes me feel best. Just being normal, normal for me is loud! Sassy, fun, flirty, energetic. [...] Loud is, the word, the name of the album definitely reflects the attitude of it, it's really sassy and flirty and it grabs your attention and that's why I enjoy it. It takes you through a really really interesting ride. So colorful the album. "

Publication and promotion

The album was released on November 12, 2010 as standard and deluxe versions. A Platinum Edition was released on November 16, 2010, it contains a computer program for the album and a DVD with a 30-minute making-of of Loud .

Rihanna first promoted the album on October 1, 2010 in London . She gave an interview to BBC Radio 1 and said: "I just can't believe it's my fifth album [...]". “The album is something new. I've never had this creativity like on this album before and it's just a perfect Rihanna album, every song is inspired by myself, only I can sing these songs, it's something very own. Anyone who hears these songs will immediately know that the real Rihanna sang these songs. The songs are just so complex and so much about me that only I can sing these songs and no one else and that was one of the most important things to me on this album, every song should be such that only I can sing these songs. And my plan worked, I'm really very proud and overjoyed with this album, I think it's my best work so far. […] "While working on the album, Rihanna had only one goal:" I want songs that are Rihanna songs, I really only want songs where the audience knows exactly that they are my songs. I want songs that only I can sing and no one else can. I don't want normal pop songs like those by Kesha or Lady Gaga or my friend Katy Perry , where anyone can create an exact cover version. ”In a club in London, Rihanna presented five songs from the album during her promo tour. Rihanna said during the promo tour that most of the ideas for the songs on the album came to her from a sense of frustration at other people's bad music. She explained, “If you go to a club or a disco and you have to listen to bad music but you want to have fun, all you get is frustrated. This is how the ideas for some songs came about. I hate it when people think my music is bad. So I wanted to make an album that everyone would like. "
