Roger Masson ( 1923 - December 13, 2014 ) was a French racing car driver and farmer .

Career

In 1957, Roger Masson became known to the general public as a pushing racing driver outside of motorsport. At the 24-hour race at Le Mans this year , he shared the cockpit of a Lotus 11 with his compatriot André Héchard . On Saturday afternoon, a few hours after the start of the race, the Lotus ran out of fuel on the Ligne Droite des Hunaudières . Even though the boxes were six kilometers away, Masson began to push the car. The Frenchman took off his helmet , took off his shirt and shoes and pushed the car partly barefoot the six kilometers to the box. After 90 minutes of pushing he arrived there, completely exhausted and with sore feet. The car was refueled and colleague Héchard took over the wheel. After 24 hours, the team reached 16th place in the overall standings.

Masson competed ten times at Le Mans. He made his debut in 1955 on a works - DB HBR . The 12th place overall remained the best place in the final ranking all these years. His last job was in 1965 on an Alpine M64 , whose cockpit he shared with Guy Verrier . The race ended prematurely after a clutch damage. Aside from the Le Mans races, he drove the Tour de France for automobiles , the 12-hour race in Reims and competed in the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring in Germany .

He was also active in rallying . He was registered several times in the Monte Carlo Rally . In 1964 he won the Tour de Corse as co-pilot of Jean Vinatier .

After the end of his career, he bought a farm in Lutz-en-Dunois , which he ran into old age.
