Routes

Start and finish tower in the Mahdental

The traditional route used for motorcycle races is located above the Bergheim district of Stuttgart , but not in the center of the most important 11.3 km long variant of the former racetrack. This leads from the start and finish house at today's ADAC practice area, past the Seehaus and then the Glemseck near Leonberg up to the Frauenkreuz , from there in the direction of Katzenbacher Hof with the Steinbachsee, past the Stuttgart district of Büsnau to the Schattengrund and through the Mahdental back to the start and finish in front of Glemseck. The section from Schattengrund to Glemseck runs in the Glems valley .

The “Glemseck” on the route
  • From 1903: First hill climb race track from Stuttgart Westbahnhof up to Solitude Palace.
  • From 1906: Start moved from Westbahnhof to Heslach .
  • From 1925: circuit with a length of 22.3 km, start and finish at the castle. Direction of travel: counterclockwise.
  • From 1931: The circuit was shortened with the road through the Mahdental. The start and finish were moved to the west. Direction of travel: clockwise.
  • From 1935: Final circuit: The route through the Mahdental valley introduced in 1931 and the section left out in 1931 form the 11.4 km route used until 1965. Direction of travel: counterclockwise.
  • 2003: 100th anniversary celebration on a 4 km short route around the castle, but still on historical parts of the route (1925–1935). Start and finish again at the castle. Direction of travel clockwise. Only the shortcut via the wildlife park expressway and its access ramp is new.
  • 2011: In response to the Solitude Revival and Retro Classic Culture initiatives, the roads belonging to the most recently driven variant were opened for a weekend as part of the 2011 automobile summer in Baden-Württemberg to mark the 125th “birthday” of the Benz patented motor vehicle blocked. Numerous visitors were able to watch historic racing and sports cars from different epochs driving on the racetrack.
