In the USA and Canada, the Fortuner is not offered in favor of the 4Runner .

In 2007 Toyota Thailand stopped manufacturing the gasoline-powered four-wheel drive model and instead built a rear-wheel-drive gasoline version.

In Thailand and the Philippines , the Fortuner is the best-selling SUV.

Malaysia

The Fortuner is sold in Malaysia in two versions, as 2.7 V and 2.5 G .

Of 2.7 V has a four-cylinder 16-valve engine, two overhead camshafts (DOHC) and variable valve timing (VVTi) provides 160 hp (118 kW) at 5200 min -1 and delivers a maximum torque of 241 Nm at 3800 min -1 . It is equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission with ECT.

2.5 G has a series four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with two overhead camshafts (DOHC), provides 102 hp (75 kW) at 3600 min -1 , and has a maximum torque of 260 Nm at 1600-2400 min -1 . The 2.5 G was originally only available with a five-speed manual transmission, but a 4-speed automatic transmission has been supplied since the 2009 facelift.

Philippines

The Fortuner was introduced there in 2005 and supplemented the previous SUV range with the RAV4 and the Land Cruiser . It is sold in three versions: as 2.7 G (petrol), 2.5 G (diesel) and 3.0 V (diesel).

Toyota Fortuner for the Philippine market

The model 2.7 G, is equipped with the 2.7-liter engine with R4 VVTi, type Toyota 2TR-FE, 160 hp (118 kW) at 5200 min -1 and a torque of 241 Nm at 3,800 min -1 produces . The model has the 2.5 G 2.5 L-R4 turbo-diesel engine, type 2KD Toyota-FTV, with common rail (D-4D), the 102 bhp (75 kW) at 3600 min -1 making and 260 Nm of torque at 1600-2400 min -1 offers. The top-of 3.0 V is supplied only to four-wheel drive and having the 3.0 liter engine with R4-D-4D injection, a power of 163 hp (120 kW) at 3400 min -1 and a maximum torque of 343 Nm at 1400-3200 min −1 . All three models are only available with automatic transmission.

Despite new competition, the Fortuner is currently the best-selling SUV in the Philippines. The Ford Everest and Mitsubishi Montero Sport are selling worse.

Indonesia

There the Fortuner was presented for the first time at the Jakarta International Motor Show 2005. It fills the gap between the RAV4 and the Land Cruiser.

Originally it was available as 2.7 G and 2.7 V . The 2.5 G model was added later . The 3.0 l V6 turbo diesel is not officially offered in Indonesia, but was introduced specifically for use in Sumatra and Kalimantan , where it proved to be very popular.

The 2.7 G has the well-known 2.7 l R4 engine with four-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive. This model is particularly popular in large cities because of its automatic transmission. The 2.7 V also has all-wheel drive and has proven itself outside of Java , where there are consistently bad roads. The 2.5 G was added later, but is considered to be underpowered for its size due to its diesel engine with only 102 bhp (75 kW). It has a manual five-speed gearbox. Its higher ground clearance version has been criticized as unsafe and not aerodynamic at higher speeds. Nevertheless, the car sells quite well, as many Indonesians trust the Toyota brand. It is also considered economical in the long run.

When it was released, the Fortuner sold well in Indonesia, but could never outperform the smaller Honda CR-V and Nissan X-Trail as these SUVs are considered more effective and better suited for urban use. In the country, however, the Fortuner has advantages, as you can transport many people with it. The former President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono , privately owned a gray four-wheel drive Fortuner, with which he was often seen in his campaigns for the 2009 presidential election.

Singapore

The Fortuner was launched in Singapore in 2005 and immediately received an enthusiastic response. The problem was finding parking space for this SUV in the urban jungle. Its height of 1.85 m can cause difficulties especially in parking garages. Less than 1,000 of the 2009 model have been sold so far (as of August 2009).

South America

In South America the model was initially offered as Hilux SW4, from the facelift simply as SW4. It was the successor to the Toyota 4Runner (N180), which was also offered under this name. Production started at Toyota Argentina in 2005.

2009 model

In August 2008, a slightly revised model of the Fortuner came out. It has new headlights with projector lenses, a new dashboard, new taillights, a DVD-based navigation system, a Bluetooth connection, a new interior in light beige, an electronically adjustable driver's seat in the all-wheel drive models, air outlets for the air conditioning for the second and third row of seats, one newly developed stability control, traction control and electronic brake force distribution with brake assist. Its front is similar to that of the Land Cruiser.
