Regular season

16 teams took part in the 2010/11 season. These initially played out the regular season in a double round. The final table of this season served as the basis for qualifying for various placement rounds.

Championship final round

The first six teams qualified for the championship round and determined the Belgian champions. The participating teams were each credited with half of the points achieved in the regular season. The final round was played back and forth. Like the winner, the runner-up qualified for the third round of qualifying for the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League . The third-placed received a place in the play-offs of the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League . the fourth-placed team competed with the winner of the play-offs for a further place in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League.

Deviating from this regulation, Club Bruges received a starting place in the third qualification this season as fourth in the final round, as it takes the starting place of the cup winner Standard Liège , who was qualified for the Champions League.

Play-offs

The teams that have reached positions 7 to 14 in the regular season qualify for the play-offs. The eight participating clubs are divided into two groups of four teams each according to their placements using the following key:

Group A 7th 9 12 14th
Group B 8th 10 11 13

The group games of the play-offs were played back and forth, there was no point credit as in the championship final round. The winners of both seasons qualified for the finals. There, the winner of the play-offs, who played against the fourth-placed player in the final round for a starting place in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europe League, was determined in a round-trip. However, since Club Bruges had already qualified, the play-off winner started directly this season.

Relegation

The last and penultimate place of the regular season denied the relegation. There were five games between the two teams. The penultimate of the regular season received a bonus of three points and was also allowed to play one more home game than the last. The loser of the relegation was relegated directly to the second division, the winner played an additional relegation round with three teams from the second division .

    Championship final round

RSC Anderlecht started the championship round as the winner of the regular season. There the team disappointed with only 11 points from 10 games and ended up only third. Standard Liège (26) got the most points after the club had only left the regular season in 6th place. The second of the regular season KRC Genk finished the championship round with the second most points (19). In the last game there was a clash between KRC Genk and Standard Liège, who were tied at the top of the table. At halftime, Standard Liège was leading 1-0 and was Belgian champions at the time. In the 79th minute, however, Genk was able to equalize Kennedy Ugoala Nwanganga and thus draw level again. In the event of a tie in the championship round, the regulations stipulate that the number of points from the regular season is used as the decisive criterion instead of the goal difference. This made KRC Genk Belgian champion.
