Samarate is a northern Italian municipality in the province of Varese .
geography
The municipality covers an area of 15 km² . The fractions Cascina Costa, Cascina Elisa, San Macario, Verghera and Lottizzazione-Barlocco belong to Samarate. The neighboring municipalities are Busto Arsizio , Cardano al Campo , Ferno , Gallarate , Lonate Pozzolo , Magnago (MI), Somma Lombardo and Vanzaghello (MI). In Cascina Costa near Samarate there are production facilities of the technology company Leonardo , immediately east of the Milan-Malpensa airport .
history
Samarate has been inhabited since ancient times, and the first archaeological finds date back to the Iron Age. The first contact with the Etruscan civilization took place from the 7th century BC , a time in which the terracotta patera (vessel) found in the Samarati region was created. The outer part of the patera bears the names of the locals in the Celtic - Ligurian alphabet, a mixture of the local language and the Etruscan language.
