The 1986 Camus China Masters was a professional snooker invitation tournament for the 1986/87 season . The only edition of the tournament was held on August 24th and 25th, 1986 in the Huangpu Indoor Stadium in the Chinese city of Shanghai . The winner was the Englishman Steve Davis , who defeated the Welshman Terry Griffiths 3-0 in the final. There is no record of potentially high breaks.

Prize money

The tournament was part of a series of Asian tournaments organized by Barry Hearns Matchroom Sport and sponsored by the French cognac distillery Camus , in which there was no prize money, but the players were given free first-class flights as well as bottles of cognac.

Tournament course

As in all of these Asian tournaments, the field of participants consisted of professional players under contract with Matchroom Sport and mostly local amateur players. In this case, Steve Davis , Terry Griffiths and Dennis Taylor played three of the leading professional players together with the Chinese Zung Chun Hong and Sung Lun Pak and Lim Koon Guan from Singapore in the knockout system . Two of the professional and amateur players each met in a first round, with the winners of the two games playing against each other in the semifinals and this semifinals being supplemented by a game between the other two participants. The winners of the semi-finals met in the final. While the first round was played in the best of 3 frames mode, the mode in the semi-finals is unclear, followed by the final in the best of 5 frames mode .

final

The Englishman Steve Davis was the dominant player of the 1980s and was signed by Barry Hearn early on. So it happened that Davis only started the tournament in the semifinals and reached the final there with a victory over a local amateur. In this he met Terry Griffiths on one of his leading competitors, who had defeated both another local amateur and Dennis Taylor, the third professional player of the tournament in the Decider .

The final became a definite affair when Davis was able to win almost all three necessary frames in a row and thus emerged as the winner of the tournament with a 3-0 win.
