Clarence Derwent Awards

The Clarence Derwent Awards are a theater award. They are annually in the US on Broadway by the Actors' Equity Association (AEA) and in the UK by the performers union Equity in West End awarded.

Clarence Derwent was born in London. He was a theater director and entrepreneur. From 1946 to 1952 he was President of America's Actors' Equity.

In his will he wrote out two prizes for promising actors to promote individual achievements. The pay was initially $ 500 on Broadway for the best male and female actors and £ 100 for the West End theater. He wanted to see how these prizes were awarded, so the first US prize was awarded in 1945 and the first UK prize in 1948. Derwent died in 1959.

The price for the US in the 2000s includes $ 2,000 and an engraved crystal cup.
