Claude L'Engle

Claude L'Engle (born October 19, 1868 in Jacksonville , Florida , †  November 6, 1919 there ) was an American politician . Between 1913 and 1915 he represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Claude L'Engle attended public schools in his home country including Duval High School . He then worked first in trade and then as a journalist. In his home country he published the weekly “Dixie”. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1912 congressional elections , L'Engle was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the then newly created fourth constituency of Florida , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1913. Since he was not nominated for re-election by his party in 1914, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1915 . During this time, the 16th and 17th amendments to the constitution were passed.

After leaving the US House of Representatives, L'Engle returned to working as a journalist. He died on November 6, 1919 in his native Jacksonville, where he was also buried.
