Paimpont ( Breton Pempont ) is a French municipality with 1711 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Ille-et-Vilaine in the region of Brittany .
geography
The municipality of Paimpont is mainly covered by forest. The forest area also contains some larger lakes, such as For example Lake Paimpont and Lake Pas-du-Houx, both of which are known for their abundance of fish. The inhabitants of the municipality are mainly divided between a few larger clearings in the forest, where they practice agriculture, and the town of Paimpont in the center, which has seen limited tourist development in recent years. history
- The Paimpont forest is the remnant of a vast, contiguous wooded area that once covered the interior of Brittany. The legendary name of this forest is Brocéliande . Many incidents from the legends of King Arthur and his round table take place in this forest .
- The 7th century by Judicaël , the bishop of Saint-Malo , founded monastery was in the 13th century to the abbey charged to the Abbey of Our Lady of Paimpont . For a long time the market town was only formed by the abbey with its surrounding buildings for the reception of the pilgrims, the cemetery and a few houses. Only after the secularization of the abbey, during the French Revolution , did the market town begin to develop.
