history
The area was probably settled as early as the Paleolithic , which is suggested, for example, by around 100,000 year old finds from the Dragon's Cave near Mixnitz . The first evidence of a settlement in today's municipal area is a burial mound in Altreiteregg from the time between 2400 and 1800 BC , which is attributed to the Illyrians . Chr., Ie, from the Neolithic period ,. From the Bronze Age to the Fund v of a bronze ax from the period around 1000. Known. Around 400 BC The area was conquered by the Celts and became part of the Noricum kingdom . The Noriker tribe also settled in the Hitzendorfer area, which suggests some Roman gravestones with Celtic names. Due to the large number of barrows, one can assume that the area was probably quite densely populated.
When the Cimbri and Teutons invaded Noricum in the 2nd century BC, the Noricans called on their friendly Romans for help. After the Romans in 113 BC Having lost the battle at Noreia BC , they gradually extended their border until 14 BC. BC to the Danube , so that today's Hitzendorf became part of the Roman Empire. Roman citizens settled in larger towns, which Hitzendorf probably already belonged to at that time, and built estates. The Roman immigrants, however, probably formed only a thin layer over the original, Illyrian-Celtic population.
The first written mention of Hitzendorf comes from around 1140 and is "Hizinchdorf". The name goes back to the Old High German personal name Hizo . The basic rule by Rein , the rule Eggenberg and the pin Stainz were lifted 1848th In 1850 today's political community was established.
In 1952, the neighboring municipality of Rehregg in the northwest was partially connected to Hitzendorf. In 1967 the Hitzendorf was raised to the market. The former rural social structure has changed in recent decades, many residents are now commuters to the city of Graz .
In the community and its surroundings there are a number of small, economically not mineable ore and coal deposits that belong to those of the Graz Paleozoic. They have been thoroughly examined.

This road originally ran in NE-SW direction and crossed the valley through the center and later became its own 600 m further south-east , a slightly elevated route, which enabled the slow-traffic-friendly, sidewalk-free redesign of the town center, which, together with a central parking lot, is often used car-free for street parties on weekends.

coat of arms
All three predecessor communities each had a community coat of arms. Due to the amalgamation of municipalities, these lost their official validity on January 1st, 2015.
The municipal coat of arms was awarded by the Styrian state government with effect from September 1, 1964. Since each municipality only needs one coat of arms and the previous Hitzendorfer coat of arms showed three hills (which can be interpreted as the three old communities), the local council has unanimously decided to apply for the previous Hitzendorf municipal coat of arms as a new coat of arms from the State of Styria. The re-award took place on November 15, 2015.
