The Gera-Land district was a district in the Gera district of the GDR . From 1990 to 1994 it existed as the district of Gera in Thuringia . Today his area is mainly in the district of Greiz in Thuringia. The seat of the district administration was in Gera .

The Gera-Land district bordered clockwise in the north, beginning with the Zeitz , Schmölln , Werdau , Greiz , Zeulenroda , Pößneck , Stadtroda and Eisenberg districts .

It completely enclosed the urban district of Gera .

history

The district Gera received some communities of the dissolved on July 1, 1950 the district Stadtroda . In return, the municipality of Wittchendorf was given to the district of Greiz . Some communities were also incorporated into the independent city of Gera.

The Gera district was established on July 25, 1952 from most of the municipalities in the Gera district, but some were also given to the Schmölln , Zeulenroda , Pößneck and Werdau districts . He was assigned to the Gera district .

On December 4, 1952, some communities in the Schmölln district came back to the Gera-Land district as well as the Schwarzbach communities in the Pößneck district and Forstwolfersdorf in the Zeulenroda district. On July 1, 1958, some communities in the Werdau district came to Gera-Land. The Friedmannsdorf community from the Greiz district came to the Gera-Land district on June 1, 1968.

On May 6, 1990, the districts of Paitzdorf and Mennsdorf were spun off from the community of Rückersdorf and the new community of Paitzdorf was founded.

On May 17, 1990, the Gera-Land district was renamed the Gera district. With the re-establishment of the federal states on the territory of the GDR in 1990, the districts were dissolved. The district of Gera was assigned to the state of Thuringia (from 1994 Free State of Thuringia).

With the district reform, which came into force on July 1, 1994, the district of Gera was dissolved. The communities Aga , Cretzschwitz , Falka , Hain , Hermsdorf , Roben , Röpsen , Söllmnitz , Thränitz , Trebnitz and Weißig as well as the district Naulitz of the city of Ronneburg were incorporated into the city of Gera. The remaining communities in the district came to the district of Greiz . First there was a discussion according to which the north-eastern communities of the Gera district, above all Ronneburg, wanted to move to the Altenburger Land district .

Motor vehicles (with the exception of motorcycles) and trailers were assigned three-letter distinctive signs starting with the letter pairs NB , NC , ND , NE , NV and NW from around 1974 to the end of 1990 . The last number plate series used for motorcycles was NZ 05-01 to NZ 30-00 .

In early 1991, the county and the county-level city of Gera received the distinguishing sign G . It was issued in the county until June 30, 1994.
