This is a list of all of the UK's highways . Note that the UK and Northern Ireland have different numbering schemes; see road system in Ireland . There are currently a little over 2,000 miles (3,218 km) of motorway across the UK.

The motorways are indicated by blue signs and a street number (with a prefixed M), such as M1 (without spaces). A roads that have been expanded to form a motorway are marked with a trailing (M), e.g. B. A1 (M). The top speed is 70 miles / h (112 km / h).

The operation of the UK motorways differs by country. In England for almost all highways, the Road Administration Organization Highways Agency (which the British Ministry of Transport is one) is responsible, in Wales , the operation is part of the responsibility of the Welsh Assembly Government and in Scotland 's Transport Scotland (an Office of the Scottish Government) responsible. In Northern Ireland , operations fall on Northern Ireland Roads Service.
