The list of cities in Albania provides an overview of the population development in the larger cities of the south-eastern European state of Albania . An overview of all municipalities in the country can be found in the list of municipalities in Albania .

The data from the 1989, 2001 and 2011 censuses come from Instituti i Statistics (INSTAT). Estimates by the registry offices (gjendjes civile) of the cities and municipalities in Albania are in some cases between 30 and 80 percent above these figures due to different calculation methods. The Tirana registry office estimated the population of the capital at 491,047 in 2001, while INSTAT in the same year counted only 343,078 people in the eleven districts in the census. The difference is 43 percent. For the end of 2006 the registry office estimated the population of Tirana at 600,339. There are always irregularities in the registration of residents and the creation of electoral rolls. Errors mainly result from double registrations and registrations of people whose whereabouts are unknown.

In the Albanian language there are two variants for every place name, the indefinite and the definite form (e.g. Berat and Berati ).

The lower level of the administrative units in Albania are the 65 cities ( bashkia ) and 309 municipalities (komuna) . The country is further divided into 36 districts (rrethi) , which today no longer have any administrative tasks . Two to four districts each form one of the total of twelve Qarke , the upper tier of local administration.

By far the largest agglomeration in Albania is Tirana with a population of 624,642 (as of September 2009). This means that almost 20 percent of Albania's population is concentrated in the capital region.

The following table contains the 65 cities , the results of the population censuses (VZ) of April 14, 1989 and April 1, 2001, a calculation for January 1, 2012 and the provisional results of the October 2011 census, which only include locations with more than 10,000 inhabitants. Credited is also the county and the Qark that owns the city. The population figures refer to the actual city without the suburbs. In some cases, these figures differ considerably from other statistical sources and election results, which is why they should be treated with caution.
