Medina County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . At the 2010 census , the county had 172,332 residents and a population density of approximately 158 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Medina .

The county is located a little east in northern Ohio, about 30 km from Lake Erie , the southernmost of the 5 Great Lakes , and has an area of 1906 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Cuyahoga County , Summit County , Wayne County , Ashland County, and Lorain County .

history

Medina County was formed on February 18, 1812 from parts of Portage County. It was named after the city of Medina in Saudi Arabia , although the historical context is uncertain.

According to the 2000 census , the Medina County had 151,095 people. Of these, 1,519 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 54,542 households and 42,215 families. The population density was 138 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.26 percent white, 0.88 percent African American, 0.15 percent Native American, 0.64 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.25 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.80 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.93 percent of the population.

Of the 54,542 households, 37.7 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 66.5 percent were married couples living together, 7.8 percent were single mothers, 22.6 percent were non-families, 18.9 percent were single households and 6.9 percent had people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.15.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.5 percent of residents under the age of 18, 7.0 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 30.6 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 24.4 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 10.5 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 97.1 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 94.9 men.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 55,811 , and the median income for a family is $ 62,489. Males had a median income of $ 44,600 versus $ 27,513 for females. The per capita income was $ 24,251. 3.5 percent of families and 4.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 5.9 percent were children or adolescents under the age of 18 and 4.8 percent were people over 65 years of age.
