In 1722, on the orders of Peter I, a state-owned factory for the manufacture of canvas for the Russian army was built. The factory was later converted into a weaving mill.

At the end of the 19th century, the Moscow - Pavelets railway line of the Ryazan-Uralsk Railway was led past, and a station settlement of the same name was built at the station a little away from the original village. In 1957 the settlement at the Michnewo railway station was given the status of an urban-type settlement under this name. 2001 Jekimatowo and the previously independent original village Michnewo were incorporated, in 2004 Astafjewo.
