Northamptonshire [ nɔːθæmptənʃə ] (abbreviated Northants ) is a county ( County ) in Central England . Northamptonshire borders with Warwickshire , Leicestershire , Rutland , Cambridgeshire (with Peterborough ), Bedfordshire , Buckinghamshire (with Milton Keynes ), Oxfordshire and with a very short border (19 meters) with Lincolnshire . The administrative headquarters are in Northampton .
The Soke of Peterborough was formerly part of Northamptonshire.
