On July 21, 2018, he played the final fight of the tournament, defeating the IBF and WBA world champion Murat Gassijew unanimously, making him the first cruiserweight boxer to combine the four recognized world titles.

After defeating Gassiev in Moscow, the Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroysman suggested that Ussyk be awarded the Hero of Ukraine award. Ussyk refused on the grounds that he was already a hero for a certain part of the population.
