Pierce County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Pierce .

The county is located in northeast Nebraska, about 50 km to the north from South Dakota and has an area of 1,490 square kilometers, of which 3 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Cedar County , Wayne County , Madison County , Antelope County, and Knox County .
history
Pierce County was formed in 1856. It was named after President Franklin Pierce .
Five buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 12, 2018).

Pierce County's population was 7,857 as of the 2000 census . 131 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 2,979 households and 2,141 families. The population density was 5 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.65 percent white, 0.08 percent African American, 0.36 percent Native American, 0.20 percent Asian, 0.03 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.23 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.46 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.71 percent of the population.
Of the 2,979 households, 35.3 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 63.4 percent were married couples living together, 5.7 percent were single mothers, 28.1 percent were non-families, 25.7 percent were single households, and 13.7 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 3.14.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 29.0 percent of residents under the age of 18, 7.0 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.0 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 20.9 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 17.2 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 100.0 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 95.1 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 32,239 , and the median income for a family is $ 40,500. Males had a median income of $ 26,563 versus $ 20,237 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,980. 8.8 percent of families and 11.8 percent of the population are below the poverty line. These included 14.2 percent of children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 12.9 percent of senior citizens aged 65 and over.
