Saint-Lys is a French commune with 9,470 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitanie region . Saint-Lys is part of the Muret arrondissement and the Plaisance-du-Touch canton . The inhabitants are called Saint-Lysien (ne) s .

geography

Saint-Lys is located in the historic province of Savès , 14 kilometers west of Muret . The touch limits the community in the east. Saint-Lys is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Fontenilles in the north, Fonsorbes in the northwest, Seysses in the east, Lamasquère in the southeast, Saint-Clar-de-Rivière in the south, Cambernard in the southwest, Sainte-Foy-de-Peyrolières in the west and Saiguède in the Northwest.

history

Saint-Lys is a bastide that was founded in 1280.

On June 12, 1944, the SS division Das Reich carried out a massacre of civilians in Saint-Lys.
