Carbonne ( Occitan : Carbona ) is a French commune with 5712 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitania region (previously Midi-Pyrénées ). Administratively, Carbonne belongs to the Arrondissement Muret , was the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Carbonne and is part of the canton of Auterive . The inhabitants are called Carbonnais (es) .
geography
Carbonne lies on the Garonne , into which the Arize flows, about 35 kilometers south-southwest of Toulouse . Carbonne is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Longages in the north, Capens in the northeast, Marquefave in the east, Lacaugne and Latrape in the southeast, Rieux-Volvestre in the south, Salles-sur-Garonne in the southwest, Lafitte-Vigordane in the west and Peyssies in the northwest.
The Autoroute A64 , the former Route nationale 117 and the former Route nationale 622 , Route nationale 626 and Route nationale 627 run through the municipality . Carbonne train station is on the Toulouse – Bayonne railway line .
history
Carbonne was first mentioned in 1145 in a donation from the Baron von Tersac to the Abbey of Bonnefont. A little later, in 1256, the Bastide Carbonne was built there. In 1799 the royalists fought here against the republicans in the Battle of Carbonne, which ended with the victory of the royalists.
