Town hall (Mairie) of Vernet

Vernet (also: Le Vernet ) is a southern French municipality with 2,871 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitanie region . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Muret and the canton of Portet-sur-Garonne (until 2015: canton of Auterive ). The inhabitants are called Vernetois .

location

Vernet is about nine kilometers east-southeast of Muret on the Ariège River . The river Lèze limits the municipality to the northwest. Vernet is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Labarthe-sur-Lèze in the north and north-west, Clermont-le-Fort in the north and north-east, Venerque in the east, Grépiac in the south-east, Miremont in the south and Lagardelle-sur-Lèze in the west and south-west.

The former route nationale 20 (today's D820) runs through the municipality .
