Boussens is a French commune with 1,074 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitanie region . The inhabitants are called Boussinois . The population increased from 750 (1962) to today's number.
Boussens is located on the Canal de Saint-Martory , 70 kilometers south of Toulouse at the confluence of the Salat in the Garonne (which forms the eastern edge of the place). The connection to the French motorway network is made by the A64 autoroute , the Boussens train station is on the Toulouse – Bayonne railway line .
Boussens is an old bastide , a town in the south of France founded in the Middle Ages and largely built in one train. The construction of a bastide was based on economic, political or military considerations.
Since the end of the 19th century, the newfound possibility of using hydropower to generate energy led to industrial activities in Boussens, the focus of which was a hydropower plant. The three municipalities of Mancioux , Roquefort-sur-Garonne and Boussens used a narrow section of the Garonne in the Massif du Plantaurel for the construction of this plant. From 1912 to 1917 there was therefore a local industry in Mancioux.
Boussens attractions include the Saint-Exupère church and Gallo-Roman ruins near the village.
