Gaillac-Toulza ( Occitan Galhac Tolzan ) is a French commune with 1,265 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitania region (before 2016 Midi-Pyrénées ). Gaillac-Toulza belongs to the arrondissement Muret and the canton Auterive (until 2015 canton Cintegabelle ). The inhabitants are called Gaillacois (es) .
geography
Gaillac-Toulza is located about 37 kilometers south of Toulouse on the edge of the Lauragais . Gaillac-Toulza is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Caujac in the north, Cintegabelle in the northeast, Saint-Quirc , Lissac and Labatut in the east, Canté in the east and southeast, Marliac in the south, Villeneuve-du-Latou in the south and southwest, Saint-Ybars in the West and Lézat-sur-Lèze to the west and north-west.
history
The nucleus of the village was a monastic settlement from the 12th century. The bastide of Gaillac-Toulza was founded in 1268. It was destroyed during the Albigensian Crusade and later in the 16th century during the Huguenot Wars.
